I just thought I’d give a little feedback on my Forex Android Tablet experience. Unlike many who have went the Ipad
route. All my devices are either Android or Linux based. I suppose it has to do with my Tech background, but for most of the tasks I need to have done day to day, Android and Linux seems to be a good fit for me. It has the flexibility, security and power I look for.
When I’m mobile I tend to use a Tablet whenever I need to consume some news or just find out what’s happening out there in world markets. I have a Galaxy S smartphone and have all the apps available that I have on my tablet. However a 4 inch screen over the course of a few hours will take its toll. You’ll go out of your mind squinting and pinch to zooming anything and everything.
My tablet is a 10 inch Asus Transformer with the latest Android 4.0. by Asus. Asus is one of the best companies that try to make their customers happy by updating Android over the air. Unlike laptops that I use to use, I get outstanding battery life. Easily 16-24 hours with heavy use. I could flip through a browser, a calculator, Skype, market apps and a host of other things powered on without ever being tethered to a power cord. If I lose Wifi(since i don’t have 3g) I’ll tether my tablet to my Galaxy phone and I’m good, Internet anywhere. So I have a mobile office and can do the things I need to do.
Ok just a brief opinion of my Oanda App for Android:
Things I do like.
- The App is fairly stable, I don’t have any crashes or annoying restarts
- Oanda was one of the first brokers to have an App, give them credit for trying to keep up with technology.
- I can place trades and certainly close one out if I really need to.
- The news feature is rather in depth(maybe too in depth at times)
- It’s practical, I suppose that’s what apps should be about. I haven’t had any problems placing an order.
What I don’t like.
- The interface is drab, it won’t get you very excited to keep it on long.
- It looks nothing like the Ipad App, why not? The ipad app looks way better
- The Charts are extremely basic, to me they’re useless and can be removed, if you put a chart feature make it useful.
What they can add.
- Make the rates/quotes larger like their homepage. Their homepage quote boxes are huge and I think is one of the best on the web. I spend more time on their homepage than on any app or software they have.
- Make the Android app like the Ipad App, how hard can that be?
I will write about the other way I connect next time. I usually just use remote desktop with a secure server using my tablet. I can see all my charts and run my software that runs on my Linux desktop at home. It’s secure, fast and very practical.
Stay tuned for part 2 where we will take a look at Forex trading on the Ipad
