The KVM Switch nothing more than a simple switch that allows you to share 1 single monitor with 2 or more computers. It’s one of those must tech gadgets. Most traders need more than 1 computer to trade. One main computer, 2 or more others as a backup just in case the main computer goes down, hard drive crashes etc. The KVM Switch simply allows you to switch from one computer to another without having to remove the monitor cable from one computer to another one.
Most traders will be able to do with a 2 port KVM Switch. Other traders may need more ports and opt for the 4 port switch. Either way, this is an inexpensive solution if you want to stick with one monitor. Be sure to get the right type of terminal end you use with your monitor. Some people use VGA terminal ends, others prefer HDMI. It’s all about making your trading day a little easier. Often times they’re not very expensive and worth the little extra cost. So definitely consider a KVM Switch. We’ll take a look at multiple monitor setup at a date. Good trading, and thanks for visiting.
Here’s a 2 port KVM Switch made by TrendNet, the brand I use. This particular model is for VGA(notice the blue on the left end of the switch box):
Just a word of warning though. If you use a wireless keyboard, obviously these switches won’t be of any use. And again, be sure to know whether you’re using a VGA cable on your monitor, or an HDMI cable.
Use this KVM Switch if HDMI is your type of connection:
